HOPE Global Challenge #6
First Tri for Charity

Welcome to My First Triathlon, a triathlon designed for first timers.  NGOs HOPE International and Habitat For Humanity International will hold this fun end-of-summer triathlon that is non-competitive, just for fun, and will benefit poor families around the world. Families can participate together, and participants of all ages and sports abilities are welcome.

Purpose:
- HIV/AIDS projects in Ethiopia (HOPE) 
- Clean water projects
in Cambodia (HOPE)
- Support of poverty housing around the world (Habitat)

Fund-Raising Target:
Each participant should set 5000 yen as their minimum fundraising target.
All finishers will receive an Official "1st Tri for Charity" certificate upon completion.
Prizes will be offered for most donation money raised for the event.

1st prize - a $350 gift voucher for Habitat for Humanity Global Village team trip
2nd prize - a $350 gift voucher for a HOPE International team trip
3rd prize - a NIKE racing shirt and cycling shorts compliments of ZUNOW TUBE and TREK JAPAN
4th prize - a bottle of white wine

"First Tri for Charity - What You Need To Know"

Date: Sunday, August 21st
Application
Deadline:
Wednesday, August 17th (It is extended due to Obon holiday)
Place: Along the Yada River in Owariasahi City, with the swim in a nearby 50-meter lap pool.
Cost: 2000 yen plus pool entry of 300 yen per adult and 100 yen per child (includes a First Tri for Charity T-shirt, insurance, free water while participating). Contact us for family rates!
Ages: The majority of athletes are between the ages of 25 and 45 with the youngest being 6 and the oldest being 74.

Triathlon Course Schedule:
REGISTRATION OPENS at 6:30am and closes at 7:15am.

Easy

Walk/Run: 2km
(Start: 7:30am)

Cycle: 5km
(Start: 8:20am)

Swim: 200m
(Start: 9:20am)

Intermediate

Run: 5km
(Start: 7:20am )

Cycle: 10km
(Start: 8:15am)

Swim: 500m
(Start: 9:15am)

Hardcore

Run: 10km

Cycle: 20km

Swim: 1000m

Run will begin at 7:00am; cycling & swimming starting time will vary

Course Descriptions:
The triathlon is in reverse in order to accomodate the summer heat.
The participants do NOT have exclusive use of the track and the pool.

Walk/Run Out and back from the transition zone.  Along the river to a halfway pylon, then return.
Cycle Same as above.  Loop, out and back, from the transition zone.

The transition zone located approximately 800 meters from the swim area.

Swim Easy swim with water temperature climate controlled at the outdoor pool. The participants in the "Easy" course who feel uncomfortable swimming have the option to use the walking lane in the pool.
Time Limit: Take your time, stop for a rest if needed. We will be waiting for you at the finish. The event is non-competitive; time will not be kept.

  • From Sakae by Meitetsu train, appr. 25-30 min to Owariasahi Stn.

Train schedule from Sakae:
Lv Sakae 5:50am, arrive Owariasahi 6:18am.
Lv Sakae 6:05am, arrive Owariasahi 6:33am.
Lv Sakae 6:15am, arrive Owariasahi 6:43am.

Cyclists can bring their bikes on the Meitetsu Line to Owariasahi Stn but are required to 'bag the bike'. The cost of carrying a bagged bag is 270yen.  Check out ZUNOW TUBE (052-973-3727) for bike covers! Cycle escort will leave from Owariasahi Station at 6:45am.  Please write your request of bike escort on the online application form.

  • From Ozone Station by cycle, appr 30 min. Cycle escort will leave Ozone Station at 6:10am.  You must indicated on your application if you require this service.  If no requests it, the escort will not be there.

What to bring (basic):

Walk/Run Running shoes and sunscreen
Bike Make sure your bike has a bell and water bottle rack attached.  Also ENSURE YOU HAVE A HELMET, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.
Swimming Swimsuit and goggles.  Caps not required.
Other Water will be provided by our sponsor SHOOTERS SPORTS BAR AND GRILL. ZUNOW TUBE RACING AND TOURING SPECIALTY SHOP has offered to give each participant a free Powerbar.  Please be sure to have plenty of liquids and light, quick snacks!  (e.g. fruit; granola bars; chocolate)
